Yesterday we went to our first family event with the Omaha Down Syndrome Parent Network (ODSPN) at Pirate Cove in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It was a great evening for us for many reasons. First of all, it was a water park - who doesn't have fun at a water park? Mateo loved the water slides and the pirate ship. Francesca even dipped in the water for a little bit. But it was who was in the water with us that was the most enjoyable.
At the park were many families with children with Downs. For me, it was so encouraging to see the older children playing and interacting - it filled my heart with hope for what lies ahead for our family. We had a chance to talk with a couple of families with children around Mateo and Francesca's age, but there wasn't any real organized introduction of new families, which was kind of a bummer. All the same, we all left feeling hopeful and happy.
