Puddles y Palomas

Before we even came to Colombia, I knew that Mateo would be jumping in puddles with his Abuelito. How did I know this? Well, because Jose Fernando used to do the same with his Papa' when he was the same age.

We went to Chia on Friday to visit Sor Rosalena, one of the nuns at the all girls boarding school that Edelmira attended through high school, Maria Auxiliadora. While we were there, Sor Matilde prayed for Francesca and Mateo in the chapel. While she prayed, Mateo chased a pigeon that thought it had found a place of refuge. I captured some of the chase on video. Poor pigeon couldn't figure out what was going on. At one point, one of the nuns came out to see what in the world was happening in the chapel. When she saw that we were with the Sor Matilde she wasn't so bothered.

The pigeon chase led Mateo outside where it was raining. From where he stood, he could see the girls who had been recently excused for recess. In Abuelito's arms he said, "Quiero niƱas!" (I want the girls). Boy, did that make us laugh! Of course, once it stopped raining, it was impossible to keep Mateo away from the screaming girls. They quickly warmed up to the cute little boy in their midst and began tickling him and saying, "Ay, que hermoso!" (Oh, how beautiful!) When they asked Mateo "¿Como te llamas?" he confidently replied, "Mateo." Pretty soon Mateo was running all over campus and I literally had to run after him and pick him up to keep him from being overwhelmed by dozens of little girls.

After our visit at the school, we walked back to where the car was parked. Mateo could not resist the puddles. In fact, he had already jumped in one before we went to the school. Abuelito was more than happy to show Mateo how to properly puddle jump. It was quite a sight. When he was done, Mateo ate yogurt, took off his shoes and socks and pants, climbed in the car and fell fast asleep.
